BBQ Pork Recipe for the Family

Growing up in Philippines there was always a fiesta around the corner. Whether it was your mom’s hometown or your dad’s or your uncle’s – there was a party to go with a feast so grand you could feed the entire neighborhood and anyone else who might stop by.

A staple in these feasts is the grilled BBQ pork skewer. Everyone has their own recipe with their set of ingredients. (My mom likes to tenderize the pork with Sprite – Sorry mom.)

The recipe I use is quick, simple and you can find the ingredients in your Asian grocery store.

Makes 15 skewers


Pork Shoulder

Mama Sita’s BBQ Marinade

Salt and pepper to taste


Trim the fat and slice pork shoulder into bite-sized pieces of pork

Marinate pork in Mama Sita’s BBQ marinade for 4-6 hours or overnight

Skewer pork with metal or bamboo skewers. Thread the pork pieces tightly to make a compact skewer of pork to help keep the meat moist

Grill on a gas grill or a cast iron grill pan for 5-7 minutes a side

Cooking times will vary

Serve with warm rice and pickled papaya and a spicy vinegar
